Alice Emma McNutt Crow

Alice Emma McNutt Crow passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, December 28 after nearly 99 years. She was born in Hanceville, Alabama to Edith and Jim McNutt and was the oldest of seven children. After graduating from high school in Hanceville, she attended and graduated from Judson College where she was a music major. After Judson, she started teaching school in Calera, Alabama before moving to Fort Payne where she taught until her retirement. She married J.O. Crow, Jr. on May 31, 1940 and they were members of the First Presbyterian Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband of 48 years, three brothers and one sister. She is survived by her daughter, JoAnn Powell of Orange Beach, AL., Sons, Neil Crow of Dothan, AL., John Crow, Sr. (Lynne Shugart) of Fort Payne, Al., and David Crow (Julia) of Pensacola, Fl. Sisters, Eleanor Anderson and Joyce McNutt, Brother-in-law, W.C. Peinhardt. Sisters-in-law, Peggy McNutt and Frances McNutt. Grandchildren, Jeff (Jennifer) Powell, Leslie (Mark) Newman, Ben (Hannah) Crow, John Crow, Jr. (Alicia), Emily (John) Jones, Meg (Shaun) DeCoudres and Greer Crow. Her great-grandchildren, Will Crow, Maggie Crow, Emma Crow, Sam Jones, Ford Jones, Alice Ann Jones, Ruthie Jones, Margaret Jones, Maxwell Powell, Annah Powell, Norma Newman, Lillie Hayden Newman, West Newman, ad Hayes DeCourdres and numerous nieces and nephews. She played the organ at the First Presbyterian Church for over fifty years, started the choir, and she regularly attended well into her nineties. She loved making cookies and pound cakes for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She went to Orange Beach, Al. almost every summer and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan until she went to Crowne Health Care. At Crowne, she occasionally played the piano, which usually consisted of Dixie, Amazing Grace, Take Me Out to the Ball Game and Happy Birthday. The family wishes to express great appreciation to the Crowne Health Care for the Loving Care given over the years. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Monday from the First Presbyterian Church, Fort Payne with the Rev. Jerry Davis and Rev. John Brock officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the First Presbyterian Church from 12:30 pm Monday until the hour of service. The family request in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Fort Payne.
