Patricia Pat Ellis

Mrs. Patricia Dawson (Pat) Ellis of Fort Payne passed away Sunday morning at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Emra and Eva Prewett Dawson. She was a member of the Wesleys Chapel United Methodist Church. She attended Blake Elementary School and graduated from Sylvania High School. She attended University of Alabama Nursing School and then went to the University of California San Francisco to receive her Masters Degree. After receiving her Master’s Degree she worked in the New York Adirondacks as a camp nurse prior moving to the University of Alabama Birmingham and becoming one of the faculty members. She and A.C. Ellis were married in 1968 where he was employed by the Southern Research Institute, and Pat continued her education and completed the requirements for her Doctorate Degree at the University of Alabama Birmingham. A. C. accepted a position with the Alabama Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory as a Microbiologist in 1973 and they moved to Auburn. Since there was no school of nursing at Auburn she accepted a position of teaching at the Tuskegee Institute. In 1997 she accepted a position with the Centers for Disease Control as Immunization Coordinator with the Alabama State Department of Health and the Academy of Family Physicians. Just prior to 2000 she returned to East Alabama Medical Center as Program Director for the Diabetes Treatment Center. Pat was very active in Professional organizations such as The American College of Health Association, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, American Nurses Association, National Honor Society, American Cancer Society, Alabama State Board of Nursing and the Alabama AIDS Coalition. Mrs. Ellis is survived by her husband A.C. Ellis, Ft. Payne a son Jason Ellis, Washington D.C., daughter Joni Ellis, Birmingham, AL Brothers, Bill Dawson, Ft. Payne, AL Duane Dawson, Montgomery, Al. Sisters, Ellen word, Scottsboro, Jenell Chambliss, Hattiesburg, MS, Nancy Wilson, Rainsville, AL Funeral services were Monday April 26, 2010 at the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronald Berry and Rev. DeWayne Clifton officiating. Burial follo the Wesleys Chapel Cemetery.
