Doris Craig

Doris Lovvorn Craig, 90-1/2, of Fort Payne went to be with the Lord and her husband. She passed Monday, February 26, 2018 at Dekalb Regional Medical Center. She was born July 11, 127. Doris was the only child of Mr. Chelsea Lovvorn and Mrs. Florence Steward Lovvorn of Fort Payne. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018 at First Baptist Church. Visitation will be 1 p.m. til 3 p.m. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, next to her loving husband, Lloyd Craig. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Fort Payne where she was an assistant director of the High School Sunday School class Department for approximately 20 years. After graduating from Dekalb High School in 1945, she attended Business School in Birmingham, where she was a member of the girls basketball team. After retiring to Fort Payne to help care for her ill mother with her daddy, she was a waitress, then she worked for Stallworth Drug. She worked at Thurman’s during school hours in the 60’s, Kilgore Drugs in 1970 to 1985. Doris then worked at DeSoto Athletic for 22 years prior to retirement. After retirement, she was a hostess at Western Sizzlin. She married the love of her life on September 3, 1948. Doris was a mother to so many children at DeSoto Athletic. When the younger children came into the store to be fitted for shoes, she had to give them hard candy to get them to sit still (if their mother did not care). She ALWAYS had a “BIG HELLO” for everyone when they came in even if she was sitting in the shoe department, fitting shoes. She was a very loving wife to Lloyd for 56-1/2 years and also a loving mother to Brant and Sherry. She worked, took care of her family, and kept the house immaculate. Her survivors include her daughter, Sherry, only living heir; and grandsons Ross and wife Paige, of Huntsville, and Ryne and wife, Rosie, of Fort Payne; great-grandchildren, Linley, Mason, and Taylor Craig of Huntsville. Serving as pallbearers will be Brent Black, Rickey Farmer, Al Hammond, Lotha Kilgore, David Rains, and Karl Wright. Honorary pallbearers will be Drew Black of Bozeman, Montana, Jim Carmichael of Valley Head, Leland Chandler of Fort Payne, Bobby Fortner of Fort Payne, John Merrill, Secretary of State, Montgomery, and Donnie Scott, MD of Tuscaloosa.
