Jimmie Sue Campbell

Jimmie Sue Gray Campbell, age 78, died at home after an extended illness on February 10th 2012. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday February 13th, 2012 at Morrison’s Funeral Home with Bill Bedsole officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Payne, Alabama. There will be a 3:30 pm graveside service at Glennwood Cemetery, Fort Payne AL. Visitation will be held from 10-11AM at Morrison’s Funeral Home on Monday, prior to the service. Jimmie was preceded in death by her father, Rueben Sanford Gray; her mother, Bertheena Lucille McDougal Gray and her brother Rueben Sanford Gray Jr. Survivors include her husband, William Beeson Campbell Sr. of Sheffield, AL; her son, William Beeson Campbell Jr.(Linda) of Sheffield, Alabama, her daughters Lucy Campbell Jenkins (Keith) and Ann Campbell Schaetzle (Mike) of Tuscaloosa, AL. She is also leaves five grandchildren whom she loved dearly: William Beeson Campbell III, Andrew Lewis Campbell V , Caroline Elizabeth Campbell, Emma Gray schaetzle and Mary-Campbell Jenkins. Jimmie was born on August 17, 1933 in DeKalb County Alabama. As young girl she lived briefly in Detroit, Michigan, then returned to live on Sand Mountain and graduated from Fort Payne High School in 1950. On November 13, 1948, while still in high school she had her first date with William (Bill) B. Campbell. She married her high school sweetheart on January 31, 1953, at the Methodist Parsonage in Fort Payne, AL. Jimmie attended the University of Montevallo for two years before transferring to The University of Alabama where she was awarded a BS in Elementary Education. In 1991 she was awarded a Masters in Special Education from University of North Alabama in Florence, AL. Jimmie taught special education at Sheffield High School from 1976-1982. Jimmie had a special love for her students, as they did for her, and she often provided for their financial and emotional needs, beyond her responsibilities as a teacher. She was a loving mother and wife, who always put her family first. She wanted her children to experience the world and other cultures and cheerfully packed and unpacked as she and her husband took her family on adventures to live in New York, California, Washinghton State, Canada and Germany. Special thanks to Hospice of North Alabama and all the care givers who provided special and loving care. She loved and appreciated their all their efforts. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
