Mary Helen Horton Haas

Mary Helen Horton Haas, 81, passed from this earthly life to her heavenly home, November 4, 2010, at her residence. She had battled diabetes and its complications over forty years. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Saturday, November 6 at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Payne, with Rev. Orien Ledford and Rev. Craig White officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. until the service on Saturday. She was the daughter of the late William Reuben (W.R.) and Minnie Lou Horton, a life-long resident of the Pine Ridge Community and a member of Mount Hermon Baptist Church. In the 1960’s and ‘70’s, she owned and operated Mary’s Carpet Golf in Fort Payne. She later sold decoration flowers in her Pine Ridge Flower Shop. Her life of sharing, caring, and loving was a blessing to family and friends. Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Raymond Haas; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Bill Ayers, Rainsville; Becky and Clemon Camp, Fort Payne; and Sherri Haas, Fort Payne. Surviving brothers and sisters are David (Marty) Horton, Boaz; Arnold Ray (Diane) Horton, Wedowee; R.J. (Johnnie) Horton, Fort Payne; Tommy (Sue) Horton, Rainsville; Howard (Dianne) Horton, Fort Payne; Anne (Don) Cunningham, Rainsville; Janie Horton, Fort Payne. Grandchildren are John (Lori) Camp, Rainsville; Charles Camp, Millbrook; and Kirbi and Kiefer Kuykendall, Fort Payne. Great-grandchildren are Grady, Sadie, and Wylie Camp, Rainsville. Other survivors include numerous niece, nephews, and extended family members, and special friend, Nellie Stover. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Geraldine Pendergrass, Margie Murdock, and Willie Ruth Horton; and brothers, Jeffrey Alan Horton, James (Jim) Horton, and Robert (Bob) Horton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity or the family suggests flowers be sent today to a special person in your life in remembrance of this wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to ABC Hospice and the Southeast Hospice Network, the Cancer Care Center in Fort Payne, and Dr. Mendiola’s office and staff.
